this scene is classic.. indeed educational as well, in a quite surreal bold manner.
imo this is by far the smartest, funniest and most underrated film Eddie has ever starred in,
and a big all-time favourite of mine since i was a kid. Never tired watching it again.

I realized watching "The Wire" (HIGHEST recommendation) that "street" economics is nearly an exact mirror of "legitimate" business: takeovers, mergers, legal concerns. Erm, taxes, not so much.

A lot of misinformation on here:
It is still illegal to trade on insider information in a futures market. The prices of a futures contract is not trying to predict what the price will be in the future. Rather, it is a reflection of the current spot price and the cost to carry (Whether that's the storage/transportation of a commodity or related to interest rates).
There are cash settled futures, but with most if you are short you will probably have to deliver.

Thanks for explanation;)
So how much money did Winthorpe and Valentine make at that day?
How do you calculate that? |
